Sorry I'm just saying that Erik believes my car doesn't have an ignition key rfid system, while I believe it does.
The only real fault I've had with the car was when it decided to start slamming in and out of gear (auto).
The ignition wafer was worn out and dropping power to the gearbox ecu.
During my research I found one or two posts that suggested the antenna ring can suffer from poor contacts and cause various issues.
A physical exam of my steering column revealed I do have this antenna ring.
I didn't replace it as it works 100%.
So I was just querying that if my car has this antenna ring, does it not therefore suggest that it is there for security ?
As I say my mind is vague on some details.
But I'm fairly certain my hand book mentions this key rfid as part of the overall car security.
Then again it also mentions some models having the ability to dead lock the doors. Oh I wish I had that feature...
As a side note, my car is the base model 'S' but has the upgrade pack of pearl paint and leather.
But it does Not have the factory volvo remote alarm system.
Back to the op though . . . . . . .
It sounds like your local mongrel just wants to inflict his jealous stupidity on you because you have what he doesn't.
It's a sad fact of life that these individuals do live amongst us.

Well that looks like a chipped-key part, interesting!
I have never, ever heard or read of a chipped key on a pre-99 car. People post about keys all the time and it has never come up. Also whatever that antenna ring is, it is definitely an optional factory part as I (most of us?) have never seen one on an 850. Can anyone confirm, is this actually a chipped key system?

Was it ever an option on the 850 ?
Since the original owner paid for paint and leather, maybe they paid for the key as well ??
What will really suprise you is its not only a base model, but it has the 10v 5252 motor.
It didn't even have the rear sway bar until I fitted one
Oh, and it's a wagon.........

I think there are quite a few differences in world markets on these cars that we don’t appreciate with all the NorthAmerican sampling here!
