Weird Volvo in The Simpsons: Yugo engine?
I have been watching The Simpsons for the last 4 months and I have seen more older Volvos in this show than in the state of Oklahoma. Of course there are a couple newer ones like an 01-02 white Volvo V70 and a 12-13 S60. I'm currently on season 21 episode 6 and this Volvo appears to be a 1985-1991 244 or 744 with the double headlights driven by none other than principal Skinner. This happens to be his second or third Volvo. Someone within the Simpsons studio must be a Volvo nut for there to be so many Volvos. I did not come here to blab though. In this episode Skinner is pranked by Bart and the engine floats up out of the engine bay with balloons attached when Skinner opens the hood. From the first clip up close to the far away shot of the engine floating away, it is obvious that it's a V8. Interesting thing is that when Skinner lectures Bart, Skinner explains that it's a rebuilt Yugoslavian engine and that there is no longer Yugoslavia (which BTW became current day Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia region). I just stopped typing and searched and turns out this might be a 764. Perhaps Europe had a V8 available we don't know much about? I know LS and Ford V8 swaps aren't new.

It's likely a representation of around a 86 760. Simpson would have US market cars. The engine likely would be the PRV V6. June

The PRV V6 engine was also used in the DeLorean.

There may be a Volvo history fan in the writer room for the show The Peugeot-Renault-Volvo engine was developed as a V8 90 degree cylinder bank angle engine and the Arab oil Embargo of 1973 over night change the course of several automotive powertrains. There was a prototype 240 (280?) hatchback with a V8 in the Volvo Museum a few years back. The engine would not have had any Yugoslavian roots so that was just a little free thinking.
I continue to see older Volvos in movies and TV shows. I think showing someone driving a 240 wagon now misses the mark with most of the audience so I am unsure why they bother.
