I'm at a crossroad with my one-family 260,000 mile '95 854T.
Still runs well and the body is very good, but there are just too many "wear item" parts that need to be replaced. It's a shame, but I just can't justify all the work it would require for a car whose value is probably only $500 - $1000.
So by the end of summer, I'll either donate or scrap it - haven't decided yet. Hate the thought of either, but I'm afraid it's time.
Was wondering what parts are worth pulling before it's final journey.
Tried searching for a thread like this but surprisingly didn't see anything.

You can make a couple hundred bucks parting out, but consider donating it to a local church group for someone who needs cheap wheels to make a big difference in their life, right now.
There are a lot of them out there.

My thoughts are the same. Perhaps it will not get the needed maintenance, but it will be useful.

I get what you're saying, but...
The "wear items" I refer to are safety issues.
Battery, tires, brakes, rotors, brake lines, catalytic converter, entire exhaust system, worn / broken suspension components, ECC module (no fan) and who knows what other component is next to go on a 25-year old vehicle.
This car would not pass a safety inspection.
I could not, in good conscience, donate / sell an unsafe automobile to someone who doesn't have the means to make critical repairs yet will use it to transport themselves or their families.

Donate it to a respectable Charitable organization they will get it to where it needs to go. They will turn it into cash then use the cash to help others. Habitat for Humanity, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) ect. If you go this route the car must be whole. It does not need to run or be roadworthy it just needs to pretty much have all pieces.alschnertz wrote: ↑07 Jun 2020, 06:04 I could not, in good conscience, donate / sell an unsafe automobile to someone who doesn't have the means to make critical repairs yet will use it to transport themselves or their families.

It's too far from CT, but here in NC there is a charity called Wheels 4 Hope that takes old cars and fixes them up. Maybe there is a similar "repair oriented" charity in your area that would take the car and repair it.

That wheels for hope is excellent. They charge 500 for the car and use local garages to donate the repair costs.
Good on them. I wonder if we have something like that up here.

Here a working t5 can be found for at least 3k€. So i guess you can at least get the engine, gearbox, harness and sell it for more than 1000 dollarsalschnertz wrote: ↑06 Jun 2020, 14:02Still runs well and the body is very good, but there are just too many "wear item" parts that need to be replaced. Different markets, different prices.
In Switzerland they have even higher prices, doesn't matter if it's high mileage car....if it have fresh control.
But same model, with same equipment and same mileage...in Italy...goes for scrap values.
