99 v70xc transmission swap

Post by finlayscoyle »

Hey guys,

I just finished swapping the transmission on my 99 v70xc and I've got an issue.
I got first got a ABS light and and a slippery road light, so I figured it must be the abs sensors that aren't working so I double checked everything and they seemed fine. When I drive the car it will not shift it stays in first, at around 3,500rpm it tries to shift but then just goes back to 1st gear. I scanned the car and got a p1618 code, based on my research its the TCM that isnt communicating correctly with the 1998 s70 gearbox, which are identical to the 99 v70xc ones. The TCM's from the 98 s70 have diffrent connectors so I can't plug it in my car.

I'm running out of ideas, any help would be really apreciated! :D :D

Were you able to check the transmission you got? How do you know it worked before you installed it?

I don't have access to Vida just now to confirm your assertion that a 98 and 99 are the same transmissions. There was a major electrical change from 98 to 99, but I am not an authority on whether they are identical or if the TCM needs to be re-programmed.

I did send you information of a 99 V70CX trans that came from a running car, but never heard back from you.

You may have to talk to the Kelowna dealer and see if the TCM needs to re-programmed to work for you.

Good Luck,

Neil.

The compatibility question between 99 and earlier P80 transmission is open

A 99 XC70 will have ME7 software , I can’t imagine that talks to the TCM the same as a 98

I put a 850 transmission into a 1999 NA V70 a few years back. Apart from the gear selector thing on top of the transmission (the item the cable goes into) and swapping the speed sensors and PNP they are identical and there's no need to swap TCM software or modules. The compatability question is more about the final drive ratio as turbos run a taller diff.

I had a code and no shifting until I swapped the 2nd sensor. It's hard to find behind wiring!!

Did you swap BOTH speed sensors from old to new? One is easy and the other one ties into the PNP connector meaning you have to split the connector to swap the sensor.

A 1999 NA will run DENSO soFtware in ECM vs the OP XC70 running ME7. Anyone know if that works?
