Thanks everyone for all the helpful suggestions!

I gave in and brought it to a mechanic. They said it did take in some water at the air intake. They got everything dry and it is running (apparently it was running very rough at first, but improved over time). They are going to change the oil this afternoon and we’ll go from there.

Well be proud that you got as far in getting it going as you did. No shame in asking for professional help either. Some could learn from that (Ahem, that includes me.........)

Glad it sounds like your car may soon be back up and running.

33 inch tires are perfered by off-roaders when crossing streams. May also be good for Volvos on flooded streets.

Rick, that might fall under the “please don’t rub it in” that I said originally... but that said, I forgive you! That’s amazing!

Luckily, my 850 is home and running well. I did have a minor anxiety attack driving it today (my cat had a vet appointment and the afternoon rain, again, created car eating floods) but we survived. (With a few detours.)

Unfortunately, I did see someone stuck in the flood waters today, pretty much exactly where I got stuck (opposite side of the street).

I credit the strength of the old school Volvo engine with the fact that Billy Jean survived my failures.
