Hi guys.
Just ordered one of those ATF flush kits from IPD and in their instruction sheet it states the capacity for my '02 V70 is approx. 10 quarts. Then I just saw somewhere else that I should have 12-14 quarts on hand. Which is it? How many quart jugs do I need?

Look in your owners manual. I think the Aisin box holds around 7 quarts of fluid. June

About 14 quarts is to do a full flush, via sump + return line (Gibbons).
Sump drain is about 3.3 qt. You can do 3 drain&fills with 10 quarts, which is about as good as a much more messy return line. IMO return line is not necessary, because only a small fraction of ATF goes through heat exchanger, especially when ATF is cold and thick. Everything else circulates inside the transmission.

So vtl, did I buy that flush kit for noting? I will assume that the "Gibbons" method does not use the same return line exposed.

Yeah, this is a common misunderstanding, for some reason people think that all the fluid is diverted to the heat exchanger, where it can be dumped and refilled with a fresh fluid without mixing old and new fluids. In real life, some part of dirty fluid never leaves the transmission through its life.
Doing it the Gibbons way is still fine, even slightly better than just drain&fill, because you dump a bit more of dirty ATF this way. Doing it using IPD kit is much less messy, for sure. So you have your $19.95 well spent. Don't worry, just replace the fluid
