emulsified coolant in expansion tank and pressurizing

Post by dgt5264 »

I have a 2000 V70,I have read several posts on oil in coolant but not in oil. This weekend I was going to drain and flush the radiator however when I started to drain the radiator the coolant was still green with no sign of oil yet the expansion tank fluid is white so why isn't in the coolant. The car runs perfect with no smoke or misfires. I see that there is a unit bolted to the oil pan which has been mentioned in other posts if so what is that called and can that be the culprit.
thanks

That is the engine oil cooler. They can fail mixing water and oil. I think abscate had an issue with this a while ago. Earlier cars used a cooler built into the radiator end cap on the RHS. In 99 they moved it to the rear of the oil pan.

I replaced o rings on my external, or biscuit, oil cooler. I’m not sure we have ever had a recorded failure of these mixing oil and coolant

It is easy to remove and pressure test with 5 psi or so, in a bucket
