Yes we are referring to the SAS pump hose, located on the top of the air box cover. I think it was the way I explained it that was confusing.
I located a delete for the SAS here, what do you guys think? I don't see a good way to hook up this SAS pump hose anywhere before MAF so it is probably best to delete. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31536

Sorry to be negative, but why do owners replace the standard air box with the can? It totally defeats any potential improvements as it only draws from hot air under the hood.
Remove the K&N filter and re-fit the original air-box. The fit a K&N version of the OE style air filter if you want to have one.
Neil.

I agree with scot850.
I must ad that K&N filters are nothing but trouble.
Oil film from them usually mess up Maf sensor readings and makes more problems than benefits.

Thank you for your opinions, but my original post was NOT how to reinstall the stock air box housing unit. I knew I was going to get some users who were skeptical of this and try to resolve it by saying "why don't you take it off". Say what you want but this car has been my daily driver for 8 years and I immediately had more power in the high rev range.
Do not douse your air filter in spray, that will prevent all the additional accumulation of oil from messing with the MAF. Unless you are driving in the Mojave desert, I am not too worried about "hot" air. I drove yesterday in 90 degrees F and the air intake provided an abundance of fresh air. I would be more worried about the restrictive snow cover that is found in stock. That prevents the flow of air. Besides; how hot does it get in Alberta Canada that you worry about "hot air"? lmao
Additional airflow in a naturally aspirated engine will make a small impact in performance. Is it worth the additional effort is the real question? To most, no, to me, yes. All the haters can stop being negative and just accept that some people do things differently.
if you are so inclined

While not trying to get personal with this, I am unable to see how feeding air from a hot area under the hood (and yes I see the original air intake pipe is still there) helps improve performance. The standard proven view is feeding more cold air to an engine to compress the air/fuel charge to get more power. Why do racing cars have huge cold air intakes to feed the engine?
As to temperature in Alberta. Can go below -40C in winter and above +35C in summer where I live. Still would not use a air intake like you have. I run a V70R with 312 bhp and 300 ft/lb from a tune and standard turbo air box.
I have seen a similar intake to yours but with an air-box around it being fed with a large cold air tube from the front of the car. Now that makes sense.

Good info on here
To the OP: this is what scot850(Neil) is referencing: https://www.ipdusa.com/products/4670/11 ... 5sEALw_wcB
The stock intake on an 850 IS a cold air intake system. What you've created is typically referred to as a short ram, sans the ram air effect. I know because I used to build Honda's, and Subarus in the mid 2000's. Those cone filters are neat bc they lower throttle response when you shorten the intake system. I'd just carry a can of MAF spray with you just in case. No starts from dirty MAF's are a pain in the bootay. Trust me I know.
As far as the SAS delete, if you can grab a spare ECU JUST IN CASE. I've never done it as the general consensus in the kingdom of volvodom is that NA engines are not worth trying to get anything extra out of. But I'm all for modifying cars so go for it. While you're at it, switch out that throttle plate for a 960 throttle plate, upgrade to a 2.5" outlet header and exhaust, then please please please go get it Dyno tested. I'm dying to see a non turbo Dyno sheet. Then you can show it to the "haters" and have hard data not perceptions to prove them wrong. Volvo people are logical by nature so bring them the data and they'll believe you.
I miss my old manual wagon. So I'm a little jealous.

Hey Ryan,
Thanks for the positive feedback! The car ran great all summer and I had a blast racing and giving a competitive sleeper vibe to all those who tempted to play with the wagon lol. I have recently created a youtube channel with my V70 and a GoPro, check it out. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6PQzM ... subscriber
So in May I actually installed the 960 TB plate and a high flow cat with a Ferrita cat-back exhaust. This car roars now. Honestly, I would completely give my car a shot against any stock turbo automatic 4 speed. The turbo does not impress me as much as the disgustingly beautiful notes that sing from the naturally aspirated engine. In a world where all commuter cars now essentially utilize a muted 1 liter turbo charged engine (i.e. Ford's "eco boost" turbo in even the most commuter centric car) I will gladly keep driving my naturally aspirated manual wagon with full throttle response and absolutely no turbo lag. The high compression ratio with high octane fuel gives more than enough pop for the daily drives. Always use high quality fuel injector cleaner yearly.
From that link you posted I was able to locate a required SAS ram intake that solved my problem! https://www.ipdusa.com/products/4671/11 ... s=P0,P4670
I will let you know how the Dyno test goes after I install all my chassis racing braces and new wheel bearings this weekend.
Great pizza comic book btw, this material is great. Both my ex-gf and my current girlfriends fathers both own and operate popular local pizza joints! I dig this!
