Problems after replace pcv 850r

Post by dan8519 »

Hi friends from Spain! I have a problem on my 850r. This month i have been changing the pcv system and cleaning maf, idle air control valve and the admision valve with a special product. When i went to start the car the revolutions have risen to 3000 momentarily and then it went down to turn off the car. The sound of the engine was irregular and i smelled gasoline in the exhaust. Any idea what the problem may be? Before changing the pcv it worked well, it only had a broken pcv vacuum near thermostat. Thanks friends

Check if there is a vacuum leak.

Is the intake manifold gasket sealed properly, especially on the front corner near the distributor cap?

You can use starting fluid to help find vacuum leaks.

Before change the pcv it hasnt problems with vacuum hoses. I will disassemble and reassemble the intake manifold. Do you recommed to dissamble the intake with the fuel rail or dissamble the fuel rail with the injectors and then the intake manifold?

You can leave the injectors on.

Take a careful look around the manifold with a flashlight and see if anything is stuck in the gasket

There is a bracket on the cylinder #5 end of the intake that holds the PCV pipes in place. I have managed to get that trapped twice doing the PCV systems between the manifold and the head.

Car may have run fine prior to work done, but moving around old pipes and wiring can cause new issues that were not there before. So carefully check everything you disturbed for air leaks or bad connections.

I wish you good luck!

Yes, look for torn intake manifold gasket near # 5 cylinder. Sounds like you have an air leak, a large one. Even more likely as you describe no such issues prior to taking on the PCV. Has to come apart, unfortunately. Take a long look at the intake manifold gasket as has been suggested.

Great news! Glad you found the problem, and can move on to the next one.
