Irv was a very nice guy. I stored that car for a week a few years back. He was in California and his next event was in Dallas for Volvo at a collision repair convention. He represented Volvo Parts at different events promoting use of genuine parts. Some family event, maybe a daughter's marriage, was between two appearances and the best solution was to store it in Dallas and fly to NY and back as time was too close to drive it. You read about the car and you think there is no way that car hasn't had a lot of major repairs. It had surprisingly few. The rear axle and trans were done twice as I recall and the engine twice with a few more head repairs. He said many water pumps and he kept a spare generator as it was still a generator charging system and those are less than a 100K lifespan, often way less. He said he did generator changes so many times that he could do those in about the time the fuel tank filled. He showed me his spare gen, tools and the gloved to keep from getting dirty or burned doing the gen. I had forgotten that he perished while in China on a Volvo trip. Surprised his daughters weren't named Carioca, Amazon, and Duett. It would not be nice to name your female child Polestar...........

I believe he only ever had one accident in the car, and that was when invited to England for a Volvo event and some careless driver rear ended his car. Volvo paid for the repairs. Next closest car with high mileage is I believe a Turkish 70's Mercedes 240D taxi that is now in the Mercedes museum in Germany. It had I believe 2.85m miles ore thereabouts. I believe that had the 5 cylinder diesel engine. My brother used to service those for Taxi companies in Copenhagen in Denmark. They were driven to 800,000km and then re-engined and sold. There were people lining up to buy them as they were maintained at the dealer and the inspections were tough!
