2012 C70 T5 vibration under acceleration and noise

Post by RiflemanRios »

Hello, I'm new to the Volvo scene and needing some help with a recently purchased 2012 C70 T5 with 129k miles.

The car vibrates under acceleration. It does not vibrate when coasting or under braking. I can feel the steering wheel shake when this occurs. I did feel the rest of the car shaking as well but its focally through the steering wheel. I have rotated and re-balanced the wheels (finding a bent rim and rotating it to the passenger rear until it can be replaced.) but the vibrations are still present in the same manner. I can not see any apparent damage to the cv axles either. Everything appears in good condition.

I can also hear metal-to-metal scraping in a pulsing yet continuous pattern when turning the wheel sharply to the right or left. Unsure if related, but the engine skid plate broke way from the car when trying to find the cause of the issue. The sound still persists after the skid plate broke away from the rear screw mounts sending plastic chunks all over the road :?

The car is factory with no modifications. The previous owners kept it in a garage and kept it well maintained. Any help would be grateful :) its an amazingly good car and I want to keep it on the road for many more miles.

Did you check the cv axles for play on either end? That would be my first pick, otherwise check the engine/trans mounts, in particular the one underneath the battery. Plus suspension components, such as control arms, strut bearings.
