I swear it seems Volvo revised their vac hose configuration every year. At a glance I would guess that hose prides manifold vacuum to the brake booster and maybe the evaporative system???
Can you can see where the hidden end originates under the manifold? If so I would think you should replace it even if you aren’t exactly sure what it’s function is. We know the car wasn’t built with a split hose.

Isn't that the evap hose that goes to the purge valve?

Evap purge hose, correct. You need two on a turbo car because under boost , the intake manifold is under pressure and can’t purge the evap.

You need enough hose to replace all those evap hoses as they will all be crusty. They change sizes too, so measure them all.

I replaced them all with the same size silicone hose. Doesn't seem to have made a difference from the original different sizes. 6mm ID or something though best just measure.

What sort of hose should I shop for at the auto parts store for this job? Heater hose, fuel line, anything common/generic (cheap) that would work?

I would call FCP and talk to the techs, they should be able to advise.

It needs to be heavy walled to not collapse under vacuum, so don’t use cheap thin stuff.

Fuel line should work ok.

O'Reilly Auto Parts has VAC hose or Fuel hose, I chose the VAC hose and though it's slightly larger inner dim, it snugs tight with hose clamps.
note this!
when switching the hose parts, the filters have a flow orientation.
kinda weird ipd sells this simple assembly for 105$

The grey pods are check valves, or one way flow valves, indeed

The arrow should point away from the evap purge valve ANd towards the intake manifold or snorkel
