Sachs shocks made in turkey and germany

I received my new Sachs shocks from Volvo today. First thing i notice is a sticker on one box says "made in Germany" and the other says "made in Turkey"..same thing?

Anyway i opened the "made in Germany" box and the shock was very hard to push down, had to put my whole body weight and my hand hurt pushing it down. I have finished installing it and decided to open box number 2. Not sure if i have gained some extra muscles/strength after 2.5 hours but the "made in Turkey" shock seems to have far less resistance...

I should have tested both at the same time, im starting to wonder if i being too picky and should return box number 2 and ask for the German made ??

Maybe pump it a few times and see if it stiffens up?

I would be disturbed if the don’t have the same damping characteristics, but that’s not the same as static compression force.

I bought two last year directly from Volvo (in Canada). Both were Made in Turkey by Sachs on the sticker glued on the strut itself. Both were depressing quite easily without much effort. My guess: Sachs (making them for Volvo) switched production for these shocks from German to Turkey factory. This alone does not mean the internals are different, but normally this is done for cost reduction, and cost reduction means there is a good chance the internals also got cheaper - from a marketing perspective. Personally I was not impressed with my shocks. They ride ok but nothing to write home about. I'm quite sure Volvo has used less quality internal components - don't think all shocks are the same. I'm quite sure when these cars were new back in the days they had much better damped shocks, I don't think these cars would have sold this much if they had these shocks made in Turkey (ride quality wise). But again, as Sachs switched shocks production to Turkey, it means you are lucky you got one of the last stocks made in Germany. Try perhaps asking if they have another one make in Germany somewhere in the warehouse, otherwise you are stuck with the made in Turkey ones.

Doesn't Volvo have a money back guarantee? Perhaps return both and get some Bilsteins, although one has been installed?

I didn't see any difference between 1.5 y.o. German Volvo and new Turkish Volvo struts.

Right now I have Turkey on.

While moving manufacturing out of Europe is generally disappointing, I didn't see anything wrong with the struts.

Glad to know there was no difference. Perhaps the Germans are overseeing production rather than having a manufacturer in Turkey put their product in Sachs boxes. What made you change out 1.5 year old German Sachs's?
