Volvo 850 vs 70 series dash interchangeable?

Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.

1992 - 1997 850, including 850 R, 850 T-5R, 850 T-5, 850 GLT
1997 - 2000 S70, S70 AWD
1997 - 2000 V70, V70 AWD
1997 - 2000 V70-XC
1997 - 2004 C70

Volvo 850 vs 70 series dash interchangeable?

Have got a 97 855R with a gross melty Texas dash. Have a line on a later 70 series dash setup that looks almost new. My question is are they interchangeable? They certainly look very close. Anybody have an idea?

A P80 70 series dash will fit in a 850 but you will need to change the door panels also. The P80 70 series is a face lifted 850.

If you go to the trouble to install another dash, expect to have to beef up the mounts first before you install. They are basically all failing at this point.

Pretty sure the '98-'00 door panels don't fit the 850 doors.

And 98-00 doors will fit on an 850 but you don't get full electronics functionality without also swapping over the x70 dash harness into the 850, or doing some careful re-wiring.

This sounds like a Monty Python sketch, where your 850 will eventually become a V70, one part at a time, due to a chain of dependencies.
