Yesterday sprayed it all down with WD40 penetrator. Did the passenger side today.

Used the official Volvo tool 9995497, a breaker bar, click-type torque wrench, drill, and adjustable wrench for the tool's bolt on top.

Went pretty well, breaker bar was a peach, bolts slid free. Standard 16oz hammer worked to pop the bolt upwards that usually gets stuck badly. Had a rental Ball joint press shaped like a U with a big hole ready in case that was a problem.

The tool pulled the metal part out leaving the plastic inside. Used drill to make some holes in top until the plastic broke its tension, then made a nice long diagonal hole and then pulled down while holding the drill trigger and it pulled and spun right out.

Getting the part to grab and start going in was where I started to lose hope. There was no way I could knock it in because of the plastic taking the shock. The tool wants to pull to one side when pressing back in.

I read a guy on here who said to start the tool gently and knock it back and forth to make sure its straight. I sort of did that, but by giving the plastic shell love taps on either side, and it worked in eventually.

A key thing is to watch the top of the arm for the bolt hole to open up, I went too far at first. Drop in that bolt that has the star head on it until its as far as being blocked by the tool underside and start its nut.

I put the wheel back on and lowered the car to compress the bracket and link back into their respective holes to not have to use the bolts to lift that weight.

Well played, sir! I've only done one, that clunkless test drive might have been the most satisfying test drive of my life.
