2008 C30 No crank No start- Dash lights shut off

Post by Kara503 »

As title states- just bought a new to me C30. No crank no start. When I go to start, everything shuts off- all dash lights, headlights, everything. I have to turn the key back to position 0 to 'reset' everything, then I can try and start it again. All relevant fuses and relays have been checked and also replaced with known good ones. Starter is brand new Bosch. No offending CEL or codes to be found on ViDA. Battery is new, and I have tried using a standalone jump box as well.
Thoughts?

I fear there is an internal short somewhere. Not sure where to start though.

Perhaps? Have you checked the starter relay or do you have a second key? Or 08 C30 came with 3 FOBS. All 3 can start the car but only one can unlock the door. Was told these FOBS were problematic. Just have to pull the small key for the door if I use one of the broken remotes.

I have 2 keys, both produce the same result- I turn the key to position 3 to begin starting and the headlights flash bright then go dull, and the dash goes dark. Removing anything related to the starter- relays, fuses, etc, just makes turning to position 3 do nothing at all. Behaves the same as in position 2. I've replaced the starter relay and all the starter fuses, no change.
I'm working tomorrow on checking continuity everywhere and attaching another ground directly to the starter body.
