You're probably good where you are. The manual emphasizes that those are approximate capacities. Like, ballpark figures, dependent on how much fluid drained during your rebuild.bronco wrote: 07 Jul 2020, 07:50I'm within 3/4 of a quart it looks like. Next time I get the car I'll check and see if it will take a little moreSlowLane wrote: 06 Jul 2020, 15:53 The ATSG technical manual for the 4T65E has the following approximate capacity numbers:
Bottom Pan Removed 7.0 liters or 7.4 quarts
Complete Rebuild 9.5 liters or 10.0 quarts
Completely Dry 12.7 liters or 13.4 quarts
2002 s80 trans slipping swap or rebuild?

One thing I learned from this project If the lube pipe in the pan pops out of its hole then the final drive will not be lubricated.
I have a friend who drives a chevy with this transaxle that suddenly started making a howling noise which is tied to road speed and happens in gear or neutral and I think that might be what happened
I am considering offering to look at it on spec. Im sure it needs a filter and fluid change but I'm curious if that pipe will be kicked out.
On the other hand maybe I should leave it alone
No good deed goes unpunished as they say.
Its just that I have an extra filter and pan gasket from the volvo job I could find a home for spare parts and make a few dollars while my memory of this trans is fresh

Sonnax makes a clever Lube Tube Retainer kit. It's inexpensive, effective and quite easy to install.bronco wrote: 11 Jul 2020, 11:01 One thing I learned from this project If the lube pipe in the pan pops out of its hole then the final drive will not be lubricated.

However, it your friend's case the damage might already have been done.
