Yeah, I was more meaning comparing the diagrams for the 98MY cars. I know the 99-00MY will be different from the 98MY.
This was the suggestion if you want to pursue the M4.4 route. I'd look more at wiring diagrams themselves than comparing part numbers, anyway.
If you just want to swap the manual into the '99, I'd probably look at the Hilton ME7 tune route. More expensive on the software side, but much less involved on the hardware side of things.

I would swap the manual, but what i want to verify through some research is to see how different the 99 and 98 wiring is in terms of key modules. If most of the wires are there anyways then i may try and swap the key modules outlined above into the 99 body and put in the 98 ECU and other components into the 99. I would rely on the ideas of the RN swap to wire and operate everything in the car however it would be the 99 body and engine at heart. I am against spending close to 1000$ on one tune, and i also have a 2000 s70 that is operational and would be a parts car. (picked all of these up cheap so i want to avoid having to buy new as much as possible).
I have space for the hardware swap and this is not my daily so it being out of commission for months on end would not be an issue.

Adding to the list:
-Dash side should probably be replaced as certain pins on the instrument cluster are omitted from the 98 to the 99. It is interesting, it seems that the volvo engineers already had the ME7 update in mind as there are a bunch of blank pins in the 98 cluster that are then used in the 99. However, there were minimal occurrences of the 98 cluster pins being reused or repurposed. It might still be feasible to simply find the wires and connect them to the engine side sensors as per necessary.
Engine side i have hit a bit of a block as the 98 to 99's wiring harnesses are apparently the same fit according to the volvo parts website i am referencing from. I am still going through the diagrams and will keep updating this thread out of curiosity.
I think i have come to the conclusion that a stick shift T5 might not be on the table for a while. Fortunately, both cars still start up and run well so i am not to worried.

Update on manual swap:
So i started to delve a bit deeper into the ME7 system in terms of tuning and I came across a post claiming that you can simply flash a tune for a similar manual file onto your vehicle. I was wondering, are the mated parts such as the dash, ETM, and climate control codes held in some sort of external eeprom? I managed to find some bins online for some 99 T5's and noted next to no differences when compared to a c70 2.3T manual. I assume that the differences i have found were due to the different transmission setup. My next step would be to pull the ECU bin off my 2.3 T and compare it directly to the online bin. If they are a match in the dissassembler then i am fairly confident that flashing a different ECU should work as there are no embedded serial numbers or vins.
Here is a link to the 85 page goldmine of a forum that describes and goes into me7 tuning.
