Drivability and Speedo/ODO issues, still working BUT...

Post by Uglyveedub »

2000 V70XC, about 240,000 miles. Not sure because of the issues I’m having. So I have searched and seen most issues are from the ABS module being funky and the speedo and odo drop out completely. Well I have pulled the ABS fuse because I have a broken tone ring on the DS front half shaft.

Well mine is showing almost perfectly half the speed and mileage I am driving until I hit a patch of rough road, plenty here in NE Ohio, then it comes back to life. Also while the speedo is acting up it seems to be very down on power in 3rd and 4th gear almost like it is making no boost. Barely pulls a small grade without heavy accelerator application and the trans will downshift harshly.

I got the car about 2 years ago for $1200 and did the basics to keep it running as a 2nd vehicle. I’ve done control arms and ready struts in the front, rotors and pads up front, turned the rear rotors and new pads out back, 2 coilpacks,
5 new plugs, coolant temp sensor, pulled the rear driveshaft because the csb mount was rusted through, patched a fuel line, replaced hood latch, power window control, and minor clean up all over. It’s a good looking car(black on black) and I just want to keep it going for as cheaply as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have a check engine light that comes and goes and my generic obd2 reader translates to the cvvt solenoid, but I haven’t messed with it.

Another thing to note, if speedo is working correctly a right turn will send it back to displaying about half true speed but a left turn will have no effect.

Nobody? Ok how bout the TL;DR...
Speedo shows 30 when gps says 60, tach works fine, down on power til I hit a bump or rough road then speedo jumps back to correct display and power is back. ABS fuse is out because of tone ring problem. Any clues?

In 1999 the engine management went to ME7 which is highly integrated.

Any fault in speedsensors, etc will inhibit boost or limit boost, so lack of power is probably being triggered by your fault conditions

The abs sensors and tone rings send signals to the abs module which also talks to the ECM and the TCM, having that unplugged is probably causing problems.

Your turn symptom is probably telling you that wheel sensor is faulting , or it could be as simple as the wheel hub bolt is loose on that side.

Thank you for the info, I will replace tone ring and check each wheel speed sensor and reinstall abs fuse and report back.
