High Idle when car has been running for a while Topic is solved

I lubed the cable with 3-in-one oil, more than 3 drops, about 7 drops and hung the cable to the hood for about 30 minutes. Then I stepped on gas pedal a few times to exercise the cable moving in and out. Reconnected it back to throttle pulley and test drove this afternoon. I drove for about 24 miles,12 miles one way. Outside temperature was not that hot, about 70 degree F in Boston. Initially, when I stopped at traffic light, I saw the idle dropped below 850 and back went back up to 850 rpm. After about 11 miles of highway driving, and parked the car, idle was at about 850 rpm. On my way back home (another 12 miles), I stuck at highway traffic jam. Idle speed stayed at 850 rpm. When I got home and parked my car on driveway, idle speed was a little bit above 850. I looked that the throttle valve spring and stopper, no gap.

So the lube of cable seems to work. I need to test drive again in hot day, 80s or 90s to really see the lube fix the high idle issue or not.

If the lube doesn't work at hot summer day then new cable will be next (it is on it's way to Volvo dealer).

I checked on the throttle cable early this morning and found that it just broke off by itself.

Fortunately, the new throttle cable was in on Thursday. I followed the instruction in YouTube to try to replace the cable. Everything went well except the clips on the cable attached to the firewall. I didn't want to cut the foam under the dash so I tried to pull it out but no luck. The rubber boot after the kickdown switch connector came off.

Then I used an 1 inch flat blade screwdriver and inserted it between the firewall and the rubber base of the cable then turned/twisted, not pried and pulling the cable at the same time. After a couple twists/turns, one side of the cable came out. Then I pulled the cable with the screwdriver twisted in the other side. Cable came out with the withe plastic clips inside the firewall hole. I was lucky that the total time was about 15 minutes.

New and old cables:

Before installing the new cable, I made sure that the adjustment end length of the new cable matched with the old cable. I also applied some grease on the kickdown switch connector to make it easy to go in and out. I test drove the car, outside temperature was about 86 degree but humid. Idle speed at 850 rpm all the times (in front of traffic light, parking in the driveway, etc). Hopefully, this fixes the idling issue. Thank you everyone for suggestions/comments.
