How to separate oxygen sensor electrical connectors?

Post by yabadabadoo1026 »

Totally stumped and at end of patience on how to separate oxygen sensor electrical connectors. Have a clue how its supposed to work so maybe I have a bad/wrong technique. It cant be as difficult/impossible as i'm finding it . WILL SOMEONE TELL ME THE PROCESS TO SEPARATE THESE THINGS so I can feel pretty stupid finding out how easy it should be I guess. Thanks. ( attached is not the 02 sensor connector but another easier to picture that looks like it) Shouldnt matter but this is a 2001 S60. Not finding anything that moves and can only assume you have to stick something somewhere for a release???????

1. Spray wit WD40 let soak in between plastic.
2. Push down on release with a screwdriver.
3. Pull apart.

The rubber seal in connector makes pulling it apart once you push hard on the release tab indicated still difficult.

Push it together a little bit while your depressing the tab , helps.

Don’t forget to be smug after posting “ remove electrical connector” knowing it took you 20 minutes to get it done, too. BTDT.

guys i just posted another thread on this with different heading never realizing i had your responses, guess dont get notifications in email or i missed them. I haven't detected any tabs that depress/ move but going out there now to view where your red and orange arrows point too suggesting there is a release on both sides of the sides???????

Go to the 5 min mark and watch the rest. He explains how to disconnect.

Thanks 93SCMax, RickHaleParker and others---------relieved to say i got 2 disconnected, not the O2 one but least i know a ( maybe not the) process now. That vid you sent was helpfu ( and i do look for vids) in addition to the wd40 as i got no movement of anything before, still cant detect a press to release tab but the screwdriver in via the vid in combination with other suggestions showed me. I first posted on this in 12/18 and have gone a year and half having given up without a clue. Thanks guys!

If committed to swapping the sensor out, cut the wire on the sensor side and pull the harness to where you can get both hands on it.
i use needle nose pliers to depress tabs on very stiff connectors, a flat blade inserted in the right location , twist the blade for leverage, spray with some silicone lube. A bit of lithium white grease on the rubber seal for the new one.
