This makes more sense if I begin by explaining that my son-in-law had his trashed 2007 XC70 delivered to my garage with instructions to harvest any thing useful to my 2007, before junking it. Mine needs a radiator, attention to the driver's window lift, and a new B cable.
I ran into a problem with the transmission cooler lines. The '04 has smooth male connections that can be removed with a pipe wrench; the '07 has female connections with a 20mm hex. I will have to use the lines from the '07 which appear to couple to the transmission in the same way.
When I reattach the upper oil line with the coupling tight the tube spins loosely. Is this OK? Is there any special procedure for reattaching?
Radiator compatability 2004 and 2007 XC70

Are the years correct in your first paragraph? It states that both cars are model year 2007.

2006 V70 2.5T, Ice White with Arena/Oak, bought “newsed” @ 183,500 miles in Dec 2015; 244,000+ as of 12/23/2020.
No. (Typo, sorry) The donor car is a 2007: my car is a 2004. The radiator adds all state that 2001 to 2007 are interchangeable. This is true if you change the oil lines. I took the upper one off the 07 and attached it to the 07 radiator. I'm scared to tighten it past firm, and the tube is not snug.

some lines are like that, they can still allow for movement but seal very well.
Problem solved
Difference is oil lines connections, but kines plug into connectors at radiator tank in same way. In case anyone's interested, just squeeze green retainer and pull line out. 07 radiator is after market Nissen dated 2016. Installed perfectly.
Thank you
