How to remove clearcoat without repainting? Topic is solved

I have multiple cars with peeling clear coat and it bugs me. But not near enough to pony up for a repaint job. Does anyone have a solution?

My kids tried a snow shovel with a metal edge, which was effective at removing it in lines,but might not be th effect you are looking for,

You don't need to remove the old clear coat. Just work the old clear coat with 1500 - 2500 grit wet & dry in wet mode or Scotch Brite to smooth the old clear coat. Watch what you are doing so you don't cut into the paint layer. Use your finger tips to feel the clear coat, stop when it feels smooth. Then shoot a new clear coat over the old clear coat. If you are just doing patches make sure you blend it into the old so you don't get transition lines.

There is a difference between checking and peeling.

1) Use a power washer to peel off loose outer edges of the clear as much as possible.
2) Sand the edges to blend with the paint careful not remove the paint.
3) Either apply a clear in missing area blending with old clear.
4) Or just apply your favorite protectant.
