850 Upper engine mount

Post by manovlov »

Hy Buddies !

I would like to replace may upper engine mount. I have done it on my last V70 1998 so I know how to.

My question is simple : there is a small arrow on the mount : in which direction should it point ? Mine in pointing sown, is it okay ?

thanks for helping.

Well, thanks but not really. I have to replace this mount anyway, so I will put the arrow directed to the top.

Any way thanks for your help.

Hi Manov,

Can you post a picture of the mount? I am assuming you are talking about the round top torque mount? I need to see it to help as my car has the later style with the aluminum mount.

I believe it points up, with the bugger bulge (if you notice the bolt hole is not central, and one aide has a bigger bulge as a result) facing the firewall.

As you presumably have a LHD drive car, this should translate to arrow facing up on the drivers side.

What I read did not sound 100% correct so pulled out the laptop with Vida to check. Cookeh got it mostly right but this may help:
Top torque mount positioning
Top torque mount positioning
Top Torque mount torque specs
Top Torque mount torque specs
Hopefully this does not get us in trouble!!

It has been a long time, but I was sure that the dealer foreman told me they actually tilted it about 10 degrees forward from this instruction as they found it lasted longer that way. My memory may be wrong but don't think so.

Neil,

You're a magician : you know how to do lot of things with yours fingers I'm impressed !

You rock !

I've seen that our old chap Robert DIY proposes a home tool to install properly this mount, but there is no longer link for parcel between Us and France at the moment without paying huge tax. Is there some advice about the way to proceed in another way ? Big socket on each side ? This "issue" makes me ask myself the same question I used to, couple of years ago : poly mount or original one, knowing that poly seems to "dry" a bit the way the mount act... Any feed back on this point ? 'Cause if it nearly the same, I can use poly, more simple too install.

Thanks much much and one more much for the screen pix. It's so easy when you know how to proceed exactly ! Thanks to all guys that tried to help !

I know some have just cut the mount out being careful not to damage the support. As to installing a new one a piece of pipe and threaded rod as Robert used is by far the best way to ensure the mount is central in the bracket.

Good Luck!
