My car seems to be having issues with the LED upper courtesy lights, sometimes works sometimes doesn't, (very likely the no name brand i used)strangely the footwell lighting works well exept my rear passengers complained its so dark they cant see where the seatbelts are.

Solution: fit a front footwell light in the rear.

On the xc60 rear footwell lighting is fitted under the front seats using a bracket, however i think thats too easy to kick.

Good idea, maybe even installing two lights but on the sides of the center console

i looked at doing that, there doesnt appear to be room. The light is "ressesed" using a flat piece of plastic in the same way the fronts are, this way the light clips securely into place and cannot be kicked/brushed off.
