2001 V70 Keyless Remote

Post by anladoc »

Good afternoon.

I just purchased a 2001 V70, and it was delivered with just one keyless remote unit. My wife claimed it, so I've been using the actual key for entry - not a big deal, just a bit of an inconvenience.

I have since bought a matching-numbers unit on ebay that was very cheap ($15) and is guaranteed.

I've read that programming is simple - just lock the doors, turn the ignition to on (not start) five times, then hit the unlock key on the unit. The doors should then unlock and the unit it programmed for my car.

The concern I have is that doing this will disable the original working remote or something BAD will occur that will require an expensive visit (via tow truck) to the dealer.

Does anyone have experience/success/cautionary tales with this?

Thank you.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

I have deleted your post in the 'older' forum.

The 2001 V70 remote can only be programmed by use of the Volvo diagnostic equipment. The method you refer to was for the older cars.

Not only that, your serial numbers on your EPAY remote have to match the same as what you have on your existing key, there are several.
Then Volvo software is necessary, you MUST have this, (50-60 bucks) plus labor ($35-$75, whatever your dealer charges).
There is NO OTHER WAY to do this and most Ebay remotes do not work

Can the software be purchased at the dealer and is some sort of interface to the remote required?

Ken,
Yes, you will pay for the "software download." It is not something that they allow the customer to take (some type of appliance) and take with them...sorry, but you're in for a few bucks if you want to get this sorted out. Establish good rapport with them and maybe they won't take you for to much $$.

Btw, there is no interface to the remote...actually the car is programmed to match your remote (as long as it's actually working) so the interface is with your car.
