If you flushed it with water the residual capacity does not matter. You add 3.5L of undulated antifreeze them top off with distilled water (Not to distilled drinking water) get 50/50.

My biggest concern is: if you used tap water to flush the coolant system. Tap water can contain Minerials that can leach out and coat the walls of the coolant system. Lowering the coolant system thermal conductivity. Hindering the coolant system's ability to transfer heat.
I bought several gallons of distilled water just for the occasion. I already purchased 50/50 prediluted since local parts store did not have concentrate in stock. I think a little less than 50/50 in the end should be fine with a change out at the next oil change. Just wanted other opinions.

I suggest you go ahead and top off with the premix. Use a Antifreeze test strip to measure the concentration. If you need higher concentration. Acquire some undulated antifreeze before winter and make adjustments.

The residual in the system after dumping just from the radiator stop cock is substantial, like 3-4 liters

That’s why the preferred method is to flush with water, drain and add 4 liters concentrate after closing the stopcock.

You will have to use compressed air and hoses to get the residual water out.

There is also another drain cock on the water pipe on the right side of motor, toward rear of car on the water pipe, probably best reached from below. I’ve cracked one of these on an engine as I was always scared it would break off and leave a nasty job. It is very high quality brass fitting and it released easily

3-4 liters is an insane amount of residual capacity. None of my local stores stock the concentrate so I'll have to put the green stuff in that I already have on hand and do a change out later.

Last weekend, with temperatures near 90 degrees, I drove home the '98 T5 with the kids because it's the only P80 I have with air conditioning, I swapped in a new AGM battery to replace the old one that kept dying — and now it doesn't start anymore. I just get a click/sproing sound when I try to crank it.

My brother says it's likely the antenna ring, so it looks like I'll be swapping it out this afternoon.

Could it be something else? Bad starter? AGM battery?

What kind of coolant type do you want switch to?

I don't think the '98 has an antenna ring, and if so, it will crank, but not start.

So does it try to crank, or does it crank and not start?

Yeah , even Dr Brothers have their limitations.

No crank is ignition switch, wiring , or clutch switch on the M56

Go find the remote starter bypass and confirm your battery , starter, and main cables are all sound

Chock it, triple check in neutral, and parking brake firmly on when you use the bypass

I don't think the '98 has an antenna ring, and if so, it will crank, but not start.

It just makes a sound that's somewhere between a 'click' and 'sproing' when I try to crank it.

I'd never had any problem starting it before, but something similar did happen with the '99 XC V70.
