Well, that's cool. It looks like PN 9451954 "Seat Back Cover" is available here in the US for less than IPD's Aluminum plate.

Its that the right one?

Yes, that's the best "seat cover" around! At least for rodents! (It's the one, yes)

Nice. Half the price of IPD's and probably ten times as strong.

I had one of IPD's skid plates installed on my 850 (it was my daughter's ride at the time and she was driving a lot of gravel back roads, so I thought it would be prudent). A "friend" of hers took the car sideways for a brief off-road excursion into some brush. The IPD plate didn't fare very well. I was unable to bend it back to where it could be used again, so it's in my pile of scrap material now.

Can the "seat cover" be installed in addition to the stock plastic belly pan/skid plate, or does it replace the plastic piece? Mine has a handy air guide aimed to cool the rear motor mount, so I'd like to retain that if possible.

Mounts behind the plastic shield.
Have a look at the catalog pic.

Yeah, I did.
I don't mean the front plastic air guide, but the standard plastic belly pan/skid plate that mounts under the engine and transaxle.

I haven’t got one of those, but I’m an AWD guy.
I noticed two PNs for this based on FWD/AWD.
That could account for a difference.

Any FWDer’s out there have the Tube Style Protector?

Well, this one is more common. It covers the whole underside of the engine and transaxle. It's pretty common for it to be missing on our old 850s these days. I know it's rare to find one in the junkyard. IPD claims it fits both 2WD and AWD.
In fact, I had ordered one of these from FCP to replace the ruined IPD skid plate, but received the other one with the engine mount cooling tube instead. I wasn't about to complain.

I'm just curious as to whether the tubular guard can be installed along with the plastic splash-pan, or if it replaces it.

The PN for the AWD version of the tubular guard, 8624108, doesn't seem to get any hits on Google. It may be that the only difference between them is the AWD one is black and the 2WD one is silver.

I'm tempted to order the "Seat Back Cover" and see what shows up. That $81 price tag has got to be waaaay less than what you would expect Volvo to charge for such a sturdy piece of kit.

$81 is significantly less than Volvo charge. The part is still available in the UK/EU but they charge £280 for it.
