Sounds like it's time to pull the headliner and install new material before you put that new trim in place.(Unless it's only loose around the sunroof)
I used THIS STUFF when we redid the headliner in the wife's 855. Spray dyed it to the color we needed.

The liner is only falling loose around the opening, I can tack it pretty easily. That flexible edge piece looks like a workable solution. Did it bend around the corners, or did you have to cut 4 "straight" pieces? How many feet did it need - 10 feet enough?

It's flexible. I bought the 10' section and had roughly 1-1.5' left. I would fit it in place to see how long you need, mark it in place and then cut it.

I recently replaced the headliner and sunroof in my 850 and that piece of trim was probably the biggest PITA of the whole adventure. As careful as I was, the original one in my car came out in pieces, as did two others at the wreckers before I found one in an early S/V70 that wasn't super brittle like the 850 ones seemed to all be.
The trick to getting them out in one piece is to release the tabs/hooks on the upper edge by gently pressing up on the moulding until you hear it "click", then pulling the moulding towards the center of the hatch opening. Work around the perimeter. Once all catches have been released, pull the long edges in gently to get the short edges to come out enough to clear the hatch opening.
Installation is same in reverse. Getting the short edges in place was finicky because the gap where they fit is pretty narrow. I used a bone tool to tuck the headliner fabric under the moulding. Used 3M headliner spray goo to glue up the saggy bits first.

The flex stuff has 4 "claws" on one inner edge, and 2 on the other. make any difference which edge needs to be "up?" There is a slight assymetry.

So that took about 45 minutes. I think I put the 4 claws on top, so only 2 to shove the liner fabric under.
Used 2 artists pallete knives, one to twist and open the gap, the other to shove fabric. Needed my wife to hold the excess channel up, to take the weight off.
Going into the curves, be sure to stay above the "lower" metal, at times I had it over the "upper" metal. Push the channel partly in, then shove fabric & get rid of wrinkles, then shove the channel all the way. On the curves especially.
If you hold up the fabric with a big binder clip, you can "hang" the channel on it to take the weight off.

Sorry, I was away for a bit today.
I never paid attention to which side was up. Mine installed in about 5 minutes, but I also wasn't messing around with loose fabric. It was all glued in place, and the channel fit over it with ease.
