Question regarding both the CVVT and VVT Hubs.

Quick question for you all since I can’t seem to find any info online or on the forum. Are both hubs spring loaded? I know the exhaust hub is spring loaded but is the intake hub also spring loaded? I need to replace my exhaust hub since it doesn’t spring back, but is the intake hub also supposed to spring back into place?

Quick edit: it’s on a 2.5l 2004 xc90

Both spring type and non-spring type were used by Volvo

The exhaust I know if spring loaded the intake side is part# 8642282 that is the one I’m not sure is spring loaded it has no lateral wiggle and spins about 1-2 teeth back and forth just unsure if it’s spring loaded

Intake are not spring loaded. If it is spring loaded then you have to exert some force to turn it one way and when you let go it springs back.

My Exhaust hub PN 9497786 was not spring loaded when I replaced it ('05 2.5T) in 2014 due to too much in/out play causing the front seal to leak.

So I was just thinking I may not get a spring loaded one, I found both the exhaust and intake on eBay attached to the crankshafts for $240 together , I bought them. Might as well just replace both but my exhaust hub was leaking terribly blew my turbo.

Man oh man - what did you buy? The hubs are attached to the crankshafts? Never have seen anything like that before.

A couple of thoughts: It may be difficult to remove the hubs from the camshafts, just be careful you don't damage any of the lobs when removing them. While attached and locked down it is semi-easy, but when detached it is not so simple. I would imagine if you swap the hubs and cams as a unit they should be timed correctly (assuming factory set). If you go this route you can slide the front cam seals on from the rear. You may want to keep your current cams as they are worn to the head and valve cover.

@SuperHerman , so I plan on actually removing them from the cranks that came with it. I ensured that part numbers matched before purchasing , I never seen anything like either found it on eBay. I just don’t have the money to buy both hubs brand new $300-$350 a piece plus all the labor already put into the car is too much for me to spend
