I picked up a used set of 17" Pegasus tires for my 98 V70 AWD, 3 of the rims are IPD replica rims, and 1 is an OEM Volvo. The tires on the rims are P235/75ZR17, and reading here, most recommend 215/45R17 tires or 225/40R17 tires with a bit of rubbing. I figure I would try these 235 tires as they were already mounted. With the wheels off the ground, the fronts lightly catch the inner splash shield at full lock, but just barely, with the wheels on the ground, I think they miss. The rear tires look like they will rub on the inside of the outer fender, but so far after a few hundred KM (some even with 4 people in the car), I have seen no rubbing, no marks on the tire, and no clean spots anywhere in either fender. Where do these tires nornally rub? I though it was in the rear, but maybe with the AWD multi link suspension, the tires camber in on bumps and clear everything? I know the rims are really close to the drag link, to the point of using clip on weights on the rim would make it contact the drag link.

I run 225/45/17 tires on my AWD 'R'. No rubbing at the rear (did you mean the tires you bought on the rims were 235/45/17 and not 235/75/17?) except when the car is off the ground the rims can bind on the sub-frame behind the wheel. The tire is ok.
No issues on the front either.
Neil.

They typically rub on front and rear arch liners. C70 blue lock stops help to alleviate this, but with 235 width they may still rub. You'll also add 1.6m to your turning circle by using the C70 lock stops.

Oh, I mean 235/45ZR17 tires on the rims right now. I am getting no rub on the arch liners, but with the multilink suspension, it seems that the rear tires will camber in on bumps as the upper control arm is alot shorter than the lower, and maybe this is a non issue? I think the delta link doesn't change rear camber on bumps, unless one side compresses and the other does not (such as cornering)

I was fairly sure it was a typo as I see a lot of wheels for sale from later P2 Volvos with that tire size. I have thought about trying the slightly wider tire as there are a lot around for sale. 225/45/17 are less common here. Like I said, the only issue I have had on my 'R' AWD has been the rim catching on the rear sub-frame if the car is jacked off the ground and the suspension is at full extension. So unless you plan to rally the car with a lot off of ground jumps you should be ok. Otherwise crawl under the car and look if you can see any way the tire might bind. Maybe try rubbing some talc on the inside of the tire and see if it shows any rub marks?
On the front, just check that the tire is not rubbing on the strut seat. If you are using P2 rims they have a 49mm offset where a P80 rim is normally a 36-43mm offset. I am using P@ rims with the 49mm offset (means the wheel sits closer into the middle of the car).

225/45/17 is the widest that can fit on s,v,xc70 with standard ET43.
3mm spacers will rule out any possible rubbing.
215/45/17 is the widest option for 850 but 205/45/17 is troublefree option.
235/45/17 (235 width generally)is too wide and if you are going to keep them....then you will need spacers and rolled down fenders.
