are P80 racks fully interchangeable?
I understand that the TRW and SMI inner tie rod ends are different, but if a used rack come with tie rod ends will it fit any P80? Or, more particularly, can I put an S/V70 rack on my 850?

You could most likely get any P80 rack to work. Hydraulic lines may be different. You may need to change the lower steering column shaft.
It might be a good idea to get the Subframe with the Hydraulic lines, Rack, Tie rods and the lower steering column shaft. Keep a eye on the upper part of the lower steering column shaft, it may of changed also. In that case you would need the whole steering column.

You have a very elaborate way of saying β noβ, Rick. I find that admirable. Are you accepting new students at this time?

I'm not saying you cannot put a P80 S/V70 Rack & Pinion in a 850. I am pointing out what to watch out for. So you don't need to keep going back for this then that.850oldschool wrote: β19 Aug 2020, 20:48 You have a very elaborate way of saying β noβ, Rick. I find that admirable. If you look at Ricksβ current build, I think one can appreciate the depth of his answers.

That's an interesting take on Rick's reply. From that post I understood that it should be possible, but there are some parts you need to check compatibility of first.850oldschool wrote: β19 Aug 2020, 20:48 You have a very elaborate way of saying β noβ, Rick. This could mean that just the rack and tie rods need to be replaced, or it could mean that you have to transfer other parts from the donor rack too. It is being suggested, as a result, that the ideal scenario would be to have a complete setup of spares available so you don't find yourself stuck hunting parts in the middle of an install.

Judging from his reaction I think he may of intended " drop in replacement " rather interchangeable which can mean identical or very similar. This may be a failure to communicate due to use of a common language.

By the time I got to the steering column I was starting to wonder if he was trolling me. Anything can be installed in anything else if you change enough other parts.
Many vendors on ebay are offering racks which they claim will fit S70, V70, and 850. Iβll ask about bundling the subframe from the vehicle the rack came out of. I hope shipping is free.

I was actually laughing when I saw his suggestion to get the subframe. Are P80 subframes "completely interchangeable"?
I guess all I can do is buy one of these " fits S/V70 and 850" racks and give it a try.
