Can't get to Oxygen Sensor Connector

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Can't get to Oxygen Sensor Connector

Post by kensington1 »

Hello! First post here.

I'm in the process of replacing the upstream oxygen sensor (bank 2, sensor 1) on my 2002 S80 T6. However, I can't get to the connector for the life of me.

From above there are too many components in the way of the connector and from below I can't reach the other side of the clip that holds it in! There's only a gap about as wide as my arm to reach in there and feel around in the driver's side wheel well.

I feel like I'm missing something here. The only other idea I have is to remove the metal air pipe on the far right side of the engine bay and even then there will only be a small, blind gap. Please reply with any ideas.

EDIT: To add some information. AllData says to remove the "engine stabilizer brace". I've googled that and cannot figure out what it is, let alone how to remove it. This is the only mention of that part in AllData.

Thank you! :D

Did you take the plastic covers off the top of the engine?
Use a flat screwdriver to depress reach in, depress and release the clip.
Engine stabilizer brace sounds like AllData is referring to the upper torque rod.

Thanks for the information. I haven't taken the covers off the engine, I'll try that. You're right about the engine stabilizer brace being the upper torque rod, I've now removed it.

I have an update! I was able to get the sensor disconnected. I couldn't get to the connector from the top, had 3 air pipes and the brake fluid reservoir in the way.

What I ended up doing was removing the driver's side wheel and reaching up into the wheel well. I pried the clip off with a flat screwdriver and then pulled the O2 sensor connector out. I'm hoping I can reattach the clip when I replace the sensor, or else it's gonna be zip ties!

Thank you again for the help.
