Always a hassle getting it snug I agree.
I tighten it by turning the rubber hose on mine. Oh, also good to put an o-ring at the top of the threads to help seal it, mine has that.

I'm wondering why four wires supply the ignition coil and whether a defect in one of them could cause the slightly rough running and the popping of the P0302 code.

If I get normal compression, they were all 155 to 160 cold when I tested the compression on the bench three months ago, I'd start looking for one of those four conductors being the problem. Now the spark plug bosch platinum, Bosch ignition coil and Bosch fuel injector are all new. Do new injectors or the common rail require bleeding to be sure the fuel gets thru the injector?

Open the hood, stand there and look at the engine. From the right (driver side) the cylinders are numbered 1,2,3,4,5 from the driver side to passenger side. Correct ???

Before when its said misfire on #3 I counted that way and the spare ignition coil normalized it worked out great, back in bidness immediately..

Correct for a Right Hand Drive car.
Not correct for a Left Hand Drive car.

I assumed which direction the cylinder numbering went, incorrectly. My brain is a little scrambled from Covid isolation (in a 50,000 acre park) and wildfire evacuation that became a possibility (a very dry forested park) , thick smoke day n night, that was hairy.

I actually went hunting for verification which way the numbering goes never did find it in Haynes or the Volvo owners manual, you guys helped out so thanks for that.

In the end that made for a quick fix, new coil and spark plug and injector, now I have more spares and it was back to normal. Thanks for that guys.

However next day I get home and 5/8 in. of coolant is missing from the reservoir after weeks of stable coolant level. Might have been a burp that arose from first heater use during cold weather day.

One thing after another.

Well done. You sat back and processed it, and found the path to Volvo Halla.

I think I’ve just done a similar blooper on my 1998 project

Well done! What I take from this is a good learning/teaching moment. We all assumed you knew the firing order which was clearly an error on our part. Well done to all the guys for helping figuring this out and hopefully now a simple fix.

Neil.
