Where does the auto industry get a lot of the 'best' steel and aluminum - Canada. Lol!! We already have tariffs on those.

European parts will also be hit. This will affect Mercedes, BMW as well as Volvo.

I thought the new factory was being built for the new S40 as it was too expensive to import?

I thought I saw one of the new S60's at our Volvo dealer in Calgary. It certainly looked a lot better then the last one which was plain ugly. Back seat leg room in all Volvos are getting too tight if you actually have legs (with apologies to anyone who has not).

Still waiting for a Volvo that can carry 4 golf bags and 4 adults.

Neil.

They've been doing it for a long time and it's worked so far. My V70 is made in Belgium. Only one of the three Swedish factories is still around though, there used to be two more.

I've actually heard Volvo people say the quality of fit is better for Chinese assembled car since there are more people in the factory to fix the little things.

Long ago. One only built the C70 and the other I think closed after they stopped making the 940.

It's more likely an example of quality driven Chinese manufacturing which we aren't accustomed to getting sent to us here in the US.

A friend who grew up in China and moved to the US about 12 years ago explained once: Chinese culture 'teaches' to save up for a higher quality product that will last. This largely contrasts US consumer sentiment that is more driven by price. My friend largely tries to stay away from Chinese made products sold in the US which are largely manufactured for, imported, and sold by US companies. To loosely quote him "they would never get away with selling this crap in China, nobody would buy it".

Volvo isn't in the 'cheap car' business. Hence, if you associate China with cheap/poor quality, as many do, Volvo is going to be one of the exceptions.

I just caught that the T8 polestar variant is going to be a care by Volvo/subscription thing.
I'm not in a position to be looking at a brand new car: the prospect of a 2019 S60 is a few years out for me as a clean used one.
I'm sure this question is fielded by dealer sales staff on a regular basis - however I have more respect for other people's time and money than to show up at a dealer to pull some salesman's time and attention away from other potentially serious car buyers.
So I'll put it here.

A lingering question stuck in the back of my head from the day Volvo announced subscription model, even though it will likely not apply to myself...

With insurance bundled, the price of that subscription varies per customer? Yes/No? If not, how does Volvo account for high risk drivers who would, on their own, be subject to higher insurance rates without raising the subscription price for everybody?
For example, with my squeaky clean driving/accident/criminal history I enjoy a respectably low $300/6 month premium for 100/300 full coverage through a major insurer. I know people with 'marks in their history' that pay almost that much just for one month.
I've heard stories about people with OWIs on their record with rates approaching $1000/month...

So how does the subscription model handle this without effectively penalizing drivers who would, on their own, qualify for lower insurance rates? Or with Volvo retaining vehicle ownership and writing off depreciation which we can't do, a fixed subscription price including 'group insurance' bundled with some high risk drivers in the pool still is a lower cost of ownership as opposed to traditional ownership... even for 'low risk' drivers.

???

In Europe it's become very common with different kinds of leasing and I think they do some sort of individual assessment. But yeah I think you can save some if you're in a high risk group. If you don't take care of the car we'll enough it's going to cost in the end though more signs of use is acceptable than I would want to buy a three year old car with (I think three years should barely show at all).

There is a lot less variation in insurance cost in EU, mainly because they aren’t afraid to take away your license

Ask ratnalle what the penalty for driving while intoxicared is in Sweden, and what the limit is...
