What do I do to test it, or fix it, or do I just need to replace it?

I think you need to do some reading first.
Very complex topic.

I'm more confused now than I already was. Do I need to replace the ETM, or do I have more problems that need to be checked, fixed, and/or replaced, first, or in addition to, a new ETM?

Looking at the date code, the ETM was made the 1st week of 2001, and from my vin was just under the 35,000th car built in 2001. 182k miles out of the factory ETM isn't too bad. Maybe a record?

SuperHerman and darrylrobert (and many others) have done the contactless ETM rebuild. There is a contactless rebuild procedure for the throttle pedal on the early P2’s as well.

This would be one less thing to worry about going bad, unless that's what is bad and making it look like it's the ETM.
Does anyone know where to find the contactless rebuild kit for the pedal? I can't seem to find any doing a Google search.

Wow, that's an old one! 2001 date code. I'm betting it's shot. You're fortunate to have gotten so much time out of it!
I also don't think I properly calibrated it. There is a really great thread over on Volvospeed showing the whole process. From what I remember, it works really well and it lasts when rebuilt properly. It's essentially the same process Xemodex uses, except they also refresh the bearings and other parts.
If you're good with precision soldering, it'll probably last. I tried one of these kits and it lasted about a week. Took it apart again, re-soldered it, lasted a little longer. Ended up eventually finding a Volvo contactless ETM at the junkyard. That's the best option... cheap and pretty much fail-proof.cn90 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2020, 20:24 Does anyone here know much about the "Contactless Rebuild Kit" by Module Master on ebay?
