Removing 940 / 1993 non-turbo Transmission

Post by zimbodel »

Before I remove the transmission to remove the torque converter,

1) anyone know of videos how to remove the 940 transmission. I never removed a volvo transmission, but I removed other transmissions. I want to avoid dumb mistakes. Youtube has none for the 940.

2) Otherwise failing the above, any advice from someone who already did it and knows the pitfalls will be really helpful. I dont want to accidentally rip off control and sensor wires and destroy linkage levers.
I have a transmission jack of course, so I can manipulate the transmission easily.

3) I saw some youtube videos of a guy who tried replacing his transmission on a 940 or similar and he failed. He spoke about some ominous click he heard when he remounted the new transmission. He said that that click means the hydraulic pump is destroyed. I dont understand that.... as the torque converter is inbetween the transmission and the engine, how on earth can you destroy the pump ?

Sounds to me that he didnt seat the torque converter properly and it broke the converter or damaged the splines when he tried to start it as the engine locked up with the transmission. Doesnt make sense.

Anyway I ask as if there is something native to volvo that does that I want to know beforehand. Therefore I ask.

It will take some time, but I will make a detailed video of the transmission replacement and link back here, so it is of use to the site members.
