It starts fine and runs, but struggles to idle in Drive. RPM jumped above 1000 few times. All fluids levels are fine. Daughter is in Fayetteville AR, everything is closed for the Labor Day weekend.
How to navigate? Is the Yellow Label ETM with 70,000 miles failing?
TIA

Check for vacuum leaks first. 70k is a really early ETM failure.

Jumping RPM is i believe the ETM or the early years pedal was also brushed. I changed both my ETM and pedal to contactless to avoid these issues.

Ty! the pedal has 10,000 miles since replacing it January 2019, so suspecting ETM.darrylrobert wrote: ↑05 Sep 2020, 21:56 Jumping RPM is i believe the ETM or the early years pedal was also brushed. I changed both my ETM and pedal to contactless to avoid these issues.
If ETM, then, could it be driven home 700 miles on the failing ETM?

I got here last night to assist my daughter since transporting the car is a lot more complicated. UHAUL option is available too.
Meanwhile, I test drove it this morning after cleaning the MAF sensor. It runs fine on highway. The engine cuts off at the braking/stop, it happened two times. I stopped at O'Reilly for codes, it is P1238.
I'll check MVS P codes listing, your thoughts?
Can this valve be tested:

P1238 is almost always loose hoses, either vacuum, TCV hoses, or loose induction hoses
My limited experience with ETS, once the light comes on or code is set, you have about 5000-10000 miles of driving before limp, mode

I spent much of the afternoon looking through hoses after O'Reilly erased the stored P1238:
- the fuse #7 toggle verified ETM responsive – xemodex ETM test procedure
- charged air hose from intercooler to turbo – looks firmly seated
- plastic hose after the MAF to turbo – old but no visible crack
- three hoses connected to Boost Pressure Solenoid Valve – the red hose at TCV connection had a small tear, trimmed and reconnected
- cleaned solenoid with CRC MAF cleaner
- test drove back to O'Reilly for another reading (took a second read at the nearby AZone) – P1238 Pending
- a 5 miles highway drive - felt a jerk after taking foot off the pedal at 4000 RPM acceleration – needle dropped quickly to 2500 RPM
- it has 73 miles of drive cycle since battery was reconnect this morning – CEL came on around 70 mile
Any thoughts on next steps?
FWIW, ordered TCV (Pierburg) and MAF (Bosch) from FCP to retire aging part to minimize "what if" –– a next day FEDEX (FCP if you are reading this)

^This above post appeared magically.abscate wrote: ↑06 Jan 2017, 11:58 I believe your 2001 uses the same engine management as my 1999 - and the P1238 maps over to ECM 6806
ECM-6806 TURBOCHARGER (TC) CONTROL VALVE
FLOW TOO LOW - PERMANENT/INTERMITTENT FAULT
That usually means bad hoses, clamps, splits, hole in hose, looseness in induction.
I can look through the hoses with additional care now that the engine heat has depleted overnight. What to check for looseness in induction?
Does the red hose tear at TCV, coming from turbo compressor nipple, fits the symptoms? Found this diagram to help make sense:
