Abnormal tire wear..

Post by Free2drive! »

Hello, can advise me as to what is causing this? Both front tires almost down to the wire on the inner edges and sidewall after 9k miles. Just put new ones on and booked in for tracking, though I suspect something is worn out.
New control arms and no movement in tie rods or bottom joints. Car does wander on highway.
Thanks
Matt

mine does that on one rear wheel, tire has a slow leak and settles around 20 PSI.
Severe sidewall scuffing, I'd keep an eye on pressure but as it occurs with 2 of yours its probably something more mechanical in common than pressure.

Your camber (chamber) is completely wrong.
Look at this 3 minute video:
This is what's wrong with your car. Somebody loosened the camber adjustment hardware and got distracted from their work.
Or it may have been done maliciously.

Too bad your tyres got trashed.
Those tyres are beyond illegal anywhere.

Thanks Georgeandkira, I need to look at getting camber measured and adjusted. Would 2mm or 3mm be enough to cause the tire wear?

That looks like bad toe in to me, not camber, I should say toe out.

Front of tires are wider than rear of tires

Update! Booked in for alignment on Thursday morning.
I’ll post results back as soon as I’ve got them.
Thanks for advice and comments.

I don't think the OP would not notice that kind of rubbing for almost 10K miles. It's toe out plus low inflation. Wandering is a sure sign of toe out whereas negative camber inner tire wear will keep the car straight. The center of the tire seems beefy compared to the inner and outer edges.

Just finished a DYI four wheel alignment on our C30 including rear camber and toe before Son went of to college.

(EDIT:) I would of also liked to have considered it rubbing due to the excessive amount of wear but the orange arrow part of the tire is from alignment whereas the yellow looks more like tire rub. Could be a combo as it really needs to be looked at from various angles.
