ive owned several turbocharged cars. saab, merkur, mazda, mercedes, e.t.c.
anyways... ive noticed the " cold air intakes " offered for our cars arent truly cold air. it looks like its a cone that lays in the air box. ive read alot and to my understanding if your sucking in warm air under the hood your actually loseing H.P.
soooooo.... wouldnt it be better just to use a K&N or similar so you get the advantage of better air flow, and still cold air intake from the stock piping ????
whats you guys opinons ????

It all depends on what you're looking for... a new pod filter will give better or different induction sound, and may give you more power than the stock airbox depending on where you put it, however, the replacement of a filter to an open air filter will result in more airflow, and you may consider wnating to tighten your AMM so the wire doesnt bend in it.
Saying this, replacing the stock filter with a drop-in K&N filter would increase power, and if you want even more, just position the intake hosing so its in a place where there is only cold air and that there is little chance of excessive dust or water getting into it!
Hope it helps a bit

Does anybody know what efekt it would have to remove the air intake that leads from the exhaust part of the engine to the airbox(the alu hose)?
850 T5-R '95 auto

No effect what so ever. I removed mine and capped it. I use a cold air intake system. (yes its really cold)
I described my system here:

97 Volvo 850 5sp, 120000 miles....and loving it
so if i were to just mount a cone filter in the same spot my stock intake box is, would i gain or lose power, because i suppose it would be sucking warm air. but nonetheless, over a shorter difference. Any ideas as to a custom intake design for a 99 s70 awd with a turbo? pics?
thanks, elc
