Belt pulley noise 2001 xc70

I have swapped out/updated my Harmonic balancer on my 2001 xc70 (that 30mm nut was insane tight/frozen) and the sqeaking noise appears to improved, howerver i have detected the possible source of the noise coming from the tensioner pulley, so a new pulley and tensioner OR i notice you can buy just the pulley?

worst case i buy the pulley then find out its the spring tensioner making the squeaking noise?

Anyone have experience with tensioner noise?

It appears you can just swap the pulley indeed (Ina). The spring part should be long lasting. The whole tensioner is quite tricky to remove from the engine bay. I think in the past I even just removed the pulley, pried out gently the bearing seal, packed with grease and good to go. May also spin to check the alternator and the compressor pulleys

mine threw the belt when the tensioner fell apart, bearing was toast, it made a huge mess of the harmonic balancer pulley grooves, took me 2 hrs to get all the burned rubber out of the grooves. if you can hear it, no doubt its shot.
I don't recall the complete tensioner being so expensive compared to the mess it can create.

When it happens on the diesel engines (UK, Aus) it almost always causes the cambelt to jump teeth and smack the valves
Fortunately, the gasoline engines don't react like this (usually)
