The Resurrection/Insurrection of GrunHilde - 1998 V70 NA M56 421 Green

Well , we saved this one from a Vermont Field, and i will come to a decision fork in the road on whether this is savable as a driver, or has to be parted/scrapped. It has a bad fender on the driver rear side, and I unfortunately don't have that donor metal anymore.

Not to worry.

First pass, I thought it was goner- heavy rust everywhere on stuff, and it blew a lot of fluids on the engine evaluation (see MAINTENANCE THREAD for that)

....but....

I still have my parts 1998 Clarke in the driveway.

Here is the ugly list at moment

PS rack lines - heavily rusted. Have good used from Clarke

Brakes all the way around - some calipers spoken for, but I can use rebuilts to get going. Turn rotors and drums I don't mind buying parts that can be used on the fleet of my 1999s (total 5 in my family) for this car as I know they will get used eventually

Two front struts and springs - can use Clarkes as test bed to get rolling

Rubber is good.

Electrics work

Car starts and runs well. Absolutely no frigging codes. Even the SAS cycles and runs correctly

AC is dead but that can wait until summer. Can sell good used AC drier to Neil - see pictures

Im not trying to pretend this is an economical save, but Labor looks like

PS - 10 hours
Brakes 4 hours
Struts 2 hours
16 hours at $25 per is $400

Looks like I can get a runner for < $1000 in a cool configuration?

IF you can get this running and safe to drive for $1000 I will be truly impressed! $1000 for 2 years running is cheap running indeed. We may have to christen you an honorary Scot!

Did you ever get the AWD fuel system back up and running? Might even be an easier job than this one!

Good Luck.

Neil.

The S70 AWD Evangelina needs to go up on a lift and have the rear carrier bolts torched off with oxy acetylene. I’ve hit them with propane 5x and haven’t moved them yet

I’ve got the engine sorted out , if I can get the fuel leak and rear carrier done that will be a nice car
