Clock Display Not Working, 1993 Volvo 850 GLT

Post by ashleydehls »

I just recently got my car back from my sister who was borrowing it at college. Just before she returned it she said that the battery had died several times, most likely due to cold weather. The battery has died before and as always I would have to punch in the code to reactivate my radio/tape player, however something happened that hasn't before and I don't know how to fix it. The display on the dashboard (below the speedometer and odometer) that usually shows the clock is blank. The display usually shows the time plus some other helpful stuff like miles to 0, tempterature outside, etc. I've tried playing with the knob that changes what is displayed (to the right of the steering wheel) but it does not seem to do anything, the display looks like it has just died. I'm really confused too because the temperature sensor must still be working because the little red light that comes on to say that it is freezing outside still comes on... so it is definitely something wrong with the display! Please help!!! My car has over 100000 miles on it.

Check fuse #35 in the rectangular fuse box under your hood. If it is blown your sun roof (if you have one) will also not retract.

Low battery voltage or somehow you have a short or disconnect or corrosion in the lines that lead to the clock (especially if nothing else is effected).

Do you know what color the clock wire is? I fixed that whole mess in my dash but I'm not sure if the clock was one involved. I check the link you gave me in another post for my wiring issues but the 95 manual doesn't show it. I'm resetting my radio right now and I'll put the code in and turn her off to see if it resets as well. Also it gets power though... I can set it a change it to farenheit but it still resets. Why would it get power but then die?

Does anybody knows how to switch the temp to Celsius in 94 850?

In US over three years now but still prefer temperature in Celsius vs F...

Push the H (hour) and M (minute) buttons in simultaneously and keep pushing until the desired choice comes up and then let go.

Just noticed that Lee also posted some information that appears to be more in depth.

Push both buttons at once, the H & M buttons, and it will toggle to the European display. If you toggle it three times it will give you

My clock display is still acting up. I straightened all of the wires that were causing me the issue and still no luck. But ever since everything was redone my fuel gauge isn't working. When I start the car the needle moves a little but just sits there, so it is getting power. I just don't know what to do now. I hope the fuel sending unit isn't bad. Any suggestions?

How funny... Three years later with my next Volvo I run into the same issue. Searched the Forum and found the question I posted in 2008 but didn't even remember

And guess what... Once again I found the answer 8)
