Woosh / whistle on heavy acceleration

Post by qwertyjjj »

Just had the steering column rebuilt.
The throttle was replaced/cleaned the day before as well.
There is now a wooshing/whistling sound on heavy acceleration. It disappears when you let go of the accelerator. The same sound does not occur whilst revving in neutral. There is also no sound when accelerating slowly.
Any ideas? I didn't think the car had Turbo though maybe that's the sound but I've never heard it before.
A split pipe maybe?

There is a big rubber boot where the steering column goes into the floor. It has two layers, make sure it's firmly secured to the floor with a large metal clip. Otherwise, if the hissing starts all of a sudden at high revs and it's rather loud, it may be a crack in the flexible downpipe but may be other things as well

Out of interest, why would the steering column / boot make this sound?

Indeed. If the steering boot is loose, you will hear lots of new engine sounds you did not hear before. And the ‘T’ is right near the boot....😀
