Hello, I have a sound from under the hood when starting in the AM
On a cold start, after resting overnight.
Sound does follow the engine revs, and there is a whining sound, it does go away after driving about a half a mile.
I just parked the car an hour ago, so I will start it later today after about 5 hours rest, and see if the noise comes back.
It just started about 2 days ago. Any thing I can do so I can diagnose this more, or any ideas what to look for?
Thanks
Al
Another discovery! Sound from under the hood. Hope it's not to big a problem...

Two paths to follow
You can remove the serpentine belt and see if it stops. That narrows it down to the alternator, power steering pump, tensioner, and idler pulleys
You can listen with a hose in your ear and use it like a stethoscope to pick up noises and isolate. This works even better if you listen to your engine before it makes noises. Do this in front of a school during the day, and they might send the white truck with the two guys with butterfly nets.
I would take an Internet guess and suggest alternator. Rationale - on cold start the alternator has to work to replace the battery charge from sitting and starting. 15-30 minutes later, all good.
Chance of correct 63.7%

Ahhhh! That white truck again? I do like riding in that thing!
The nets are not needed, I run into the back when they open the doors!
I like my percentages, they are in my favor!
Ok, will do this stuff. Btw the noise wasn't there today, after having it sit for 24 hrs
