Replace remote starter and remove alarm

Post by qwertyjjj »

For a few years now, I've had the "alarm needs service" message and last year the remote starter stopped working (tried replacing batteries in remotes but no luck).
So, I would like to rip out what's there and replace with a new one.
The alarm I find useless anyway.
How can I disconnect the alarm?
And
What are some recommended after market remote starters for the v70 2004 that I could diy install?

I wouldn't mind fixing the existing one but I don't even know where it is

The alarm unit lives in the passenger fender. Orangex has an excellent video on servicing it.

by now the alarm circuit board is ruined by nicad battery acid leaking on it. You can just unplug it inside the fender liner.
You could buy a new alarm for $250, I chose to unplug it, no-one would be bothered trying to steal it around here, its mostly Amish anyway here.
I didn't know they had remote start, is it after mkt ?
mine is 04 v70.

Will unplugging it prevent the alarm error message appearing in the dash notice?
Yeah it's after market but not sure which brand. Volvo fitted it a long time back

I think it's on the CANBUS so you can't just yank it
