I treat ebay like a snake pit. And I really don't like snakes.

Plenty of used parts with no issues.

Only occasionally new parts (Swedish Auto Parts P80 heater core for example) and only when the seller/part is a known quantity.

If I want a “Genuine Volvo” part I get it from FCP, IPD, or the stealer.

hi all well here in the uk we have a very few breakers and scrapyards and the ones we do have are off the shelf so mega expensive often cost from the breaker for used is more than buying oe parts,so yes i use ebay a lot for the volvo so far near all the parts ive bought have been pattern and if your careful whom you buy from and checkout there history etc then you have a good chance getting a good deal,ie ukcoolingparts radiator heater matrix and all the fitting needed to fit them for under £100 with a 5 year guarantee,my only grudge to be honest is the fact sellers can claim to be uk based when infact there in spain or germany or even china and when your desperate awaiting a part only to find it will take 3 weeks to get here!
i also build off road powerchairs and have several ebay sellers i use a lot that way i can get competition going on pricing esp used motors with low hours on at a tenth of the new price.
fake parts where a problem for a while so again worth doing your homework on sellers before purchase, also the ebay 60 day guarantee bit and paypal make it a bit less dodgy, buy careful.

I bought an ABS module for my '01 XC70 from Ebay, the only place that had the exact same module for less than what the car is worth...works fine

The parts I got off ebay were:

Swedish Parts heater core: so far so good.

some "high temp" temp cable covering for my ignition wires on the coils. It was only "high temp" as in "will crumble to dust when exposed to high temp."

The later is barely a part but easily falls into the category of "some stuff on ebay is complete crap."

Just a handful of things like good used taillight lenses that you can see, and a used 850 wheel from a salvage yard. If there's a Volvo dealer parts counter with an ebay presence, I'll consider for new parts. If you're looking for a rare vintage part, sometimes that's the only way to snag one unless you know a shop with a parts stash.

But yeah, generally sketchy.

I bought some OEM Volvo parts, from closed garages if I believe the seller. Everything arrived in Volvo blue boxes.
