Headlights turned themselves on during the night

went out this morning and only the high beams were on. Lately if I use the high beams they don't want to switch back to low beams. Click the high beam switch a few times they would go back. The right turn signal gets cranky every so often. I understand that is the contacts in the lever needs to be cleaned or new lever installed. So could this be the lever or something more like a relay or worse a computer problem? Has anyone had this happen? Thank you, June

Most likely the SWM (Steering Wheel Module) it has the steering column stalks sticking out of it (Turn Signal, Wipers .. ect). About $16.00 at a PNP and 1/2 hour of labor to change it when you know what you are doing. Figure an hour the first time through.

You will need to disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected until finished because you will be disconnecting the steering wheel Air Bag.

Do not break the Air bag connectors. Squeeze the tabs together on the end together and slide out the connector with the other hand. Never use force or a lever. It it does not slide out with almost no force, you do not have locking tabs fully disengaged.

S80 Airbag release is at the end.

I pulled our Odyssey's apart and clean it as it was making a relay under the dash click rapidly. From intermittent to full on clicking all the time so my wife wouldn't drive it. Drove me crazy after awhile also so tackled it. No steering wheel removal so it wasn't so bad.

When my son told me his 03 S80 T6 required the full flip of the lever down to activate the left turn signal I didn't respond as my mind quickly thought no to the steering wheel removal. Still reluctant to tackle it.

The steering wheel is easy, it pops off, no puller required. Not like the old school steering wheels which where a pita to get off and on. Just make sure you don't change the alignment of the Air bag spring. The Air bag spring is the part with the wires coming out of it.

Eventually the lights died and water started leaking inside the dash. It has been at Volvo for a couple of weeks now and the lighting problem is the CEM but they can't find the leak. So I am told... We will see. June
