My son called and told me that he is experiencing an increasing creaking noise from the left rear suspension area. I did some research and suspected the rear trailing arm bushing on the driver side. The car is a 2007 S80 3.2l. FWD with 125K miles. He just pulled in a few minutes ago from school and I reached under and grabbed the bushing and trailing arm while pushing down on the rear door sill...I can feel and hear the creaking. Also, I can feel the rubber protruding past the edge of the metal bushing housing! I haven't jacked it up yet for a visual but it definitely feels different that the right side bushing.
Has anyone done this bushing replacement on the Volvo S80 ? And can you point me in the direction of a good video or write-up? From what I've read so far I might be in for a special tool purchase for installing and removing the bushings. Anyone have a recommendation on a good tool. Would this tool be available as a rental?
Starting to get cold here in Rochester, so I don't look forward to doing this but I think its needs to be done soon. Any help is very much appreciated.

Decided not to do this myself as the tool to replace in situ had to come from UK and it is possible to screw up. Bit the bullet and had the dealer do this. To do both sides cost me $780 . And BTW dealer said no alignment was needed after doing this repair. He did say that I have a right front bearing going bad! And that will be around $800! There is some noise coming from front right side but I'm gonna replace the motor mounts on that side first as the upper torque rod mount is cracked and the lower right side mount looks very compressed. Maybe this is making some noise? No real vibrations are felt but this should probably be done anyway at 125K miles
So lets call this one solved. Just not by me! (sad face)
