Dash indicator that I can't read ......

Post by Duncx »

2005 Volvo V70 2.5T AWD estate/wagon

My dash keeps flashing up "panne d'ampoule feu de position" after I hooked up mate's trailer ..... car originally sold in Quebec and no I don't speak French. And yes I googled it but all results are in French and I don't understand them.

Seems to be saying "position light" out but I have looked all around the car and everything looks good (no trailer plugged in now). It flashes on and off all the time and with no specific pattern etc..

Any pointers would be awesome.

Cheers.

I would be looking for Wire Chafing on his trailer. You will get that message if a light circuit shorts to ground. It is intermittent, which indicates a harness moving, which in turn can cause chafing ....

That would be indeed faulty position light bulb, there's two of these very fragile bulbs in each tail light, possible the small tungsten has cracked on one and still makes intermittent contact. May also pull the bulb and inspect the socket for corrosion.

As mentioned, it's a good idea to at least write down most common important messages in french, have the paper with you

Mostly messages with charge batterie or systeme electrique (battery charge, usually faulty alternator regulator), huile moteur (engine oil), niveau bas liquide refroidissement moteur (low engine coolant level), arreter (stop), anti patinage (anti-skid), freins (brakes)

I found a nice owner's manual, it has a few messages at page 43, unfortunately it's not all of them https://az685612.vo.msecnd.net/pdfs/28e ... tp8147.pdf

"No, he doesn't regret anything"....? Is this an example of literal translations and colloquailisms colliding?

It’s an Edith Piaf classic. You’ve heard it in many high end ads for expensive stuff on TV
